One Does Not Simply Walk Off Second Breakfast

Update: So close, yet so far...

We're near the end of August, one week left until the month's end, and I'm both shocked at how much progress I've made and a bit disappointed at how much I still have left undone. I have walked 295.5 miles, meaning there's about 100 miles remaining on my journey.

Sadly, this shortage isn't shocking to me. As my wonderful partner mentioned, there have been some "orc attacks" along the way that got in the way of being able to walk as much as I would have liked in this last stretch of summer.

For one, there were the Canada wildfires. For about a week, Seattle's air quality was horrifically poor, with dense smoke and ash in the air everywhere. The news told everyone not to exercise during this time, and especially not to do a lot of physical activity outside.

and the same view during the Canada wildfires
On these days, I tried to stay active indoors, but I rarely got more than a mile or two in distance-log-wise.

One other obstacle, but one that was also a lot of fun, was a brief "eagle" journey to upstate New York. I was there for a reunion, and sadly there was more bad-for-me food and inactivity than I had been trying for, but the scenery was gorgeous and what walks and hikes I managed to squeeze in were amazing.

It was gorgeous, and I was so happy to spend time there. However, it not only stormed and rained a bit while I was there, making some trails muddy and difficult to cross, but all that time sitting on a plane meant that the two all-day travel days barely logged any physical travelling distance at all.

Still, I feel good about what I've done thus far. I've been more consciously making sure I've been moving, and overall I've been eating consciously healthy more, while still allowing for some indulgences here and there. And I've lost 8 pounds, so I can definitely feel good about that!

The journey is not over. I may not make it by the end of August, but I'll try and finish the journey by the end of September and set new goals from there. For now, I'm enjoying how far I've come and staying focused on moving forward.

After all, it'd be rude to keep Elrond waiting at Rivendell for much longer.
